Multi-talented actor, singer, and songwriter Asher Angel continues to learn about himself as an artist in his recent single “Flip the Switch”, released in January. Asher created the song with Grammy-nominated producers Felisha King Harvey, Kenneth Paige, and Harv. Thank you, Asher for taking the time to chat with Young Entertainment. We love everything you do and are excited to see you keep shining.

Young Entertainment: What has been your favorite thing when it comes to creating music?
Asher Angel: Music is such an incredible tool for me to really tap into myself as a person and as an artist. I love writing and creating. It’s my favorite thing to do and it gives me an escape from reality.

YE: When did you first start putting “Flip the Switch” to paper? And what about the day you said “That’s it. It’s complete.”?
AA: I remember the day we first started “Flip The Switch.” We had the whole team in the studio and just started putting down melodies and lyrics. It just started to flow that day. I knew immediately from the melody we came up with that this was going to be a special song, and I knew it had to be my next release.

YE: What was your first reaction to hearing the complete song?
AA: The first time I heard the finished song, I felt very proud of myself and the maturity and evolution of my musical career. I also felt excited to share it with the world. Every song that I make becomes my baby and when I release them I feel like I’m sharing a little piece of myself with the world. It’s a vulnerable experience.

YE: What’s one thing you learned about yourself while working on “Flip the Switch”?
AA: The one thing I’ve learned over the last two years of making music, and specifically making “Flip The Switch,” is the importance of being confident and feeling comfortable in my own skin. That’s the message behind “Flip The Switch” as well. There will always be people who don’t believe in you, but there’s also the option to “flip the switch” on those things, not listen to the noise, and to just believe in yourself. I think through this entire process, I’ve really found a lot of self belief.  

YE: In the song you talk about London being your place to have fun, what makes London so special to you?AA: I’ve traveled there a lot for movie press and I just find it to be a magical city with such a lovely atmosphere. It’s definitely a dream of mine to perform in London for the fans I have there.  I’d love to perform at Wembley Stadium or at the O2 Arena in the future.

YE: How did you decide you wanted Harv, KP, and Felisha producing your song?

AA: I am so fortunate to have been connected with KP, Felisha, and Harv in this industry. They are incredible humans that I respect so much. And, most of all, they believe in me. It’s hard to find people who believe in you and who are also good, genuine people in this industry. I value that. 

YE: What’s next for Asher Angel?
AA: The next step for me this year is to release an album and, hopefully, go on tour! I’ll also be working on more movie projects. This is going to be such an exciting year ahead. I can’t wait to go on this incredible journey with all my fans and supporters. Let’s shock the world!
