Country Star MacKenzie Porter Still Gets Nervous Before Playing Live. She FaceTimed Us About Her New Album Nobody’s Born With A Broken Heart

MacKenzie Porter is unstoppable on her chart-topping journey with her mesmerizing vocals and powerful lyrics. Her epic 19-song heartbreak album Nobody’s Born with A Broken Heart comes out on April 26. We got to chat with MacKenzie about making the new album, collaborating with Elijah Woods, and more.

MacKenzie grew up on a cattle ranch in Alberta, Canada and began studying and playing music at just four years old. She toured with a family band, including her brother Kalan Porter, before embarking on a solo career. She has since risen to international acclaim, as the only female this century to have six No. 1 songs on Canadian country radio. She was also the only female in her category nominated for Favorite Country Song at the 2022 American Music Awards. MacKenzie has opened for a number of big names including Rascal Flatts, Kenny Chesney, and Brad Paisley and has performed at some of the world’s most iconic venues. In addition to her music career, she has worked as an actor, starring on Netflix’s sci-fi television series Travelers

MacKenzie began working on Nobody’s Born with A Broken Heart in 2017, and wrote hundreds of songs, narrowing the record down to 19. She has already released “Easy To Miss,” “Pay Me Back in Change,” and “Young at Heart” and plans to release a few more before the record release. She has performed many of these songs for fans, including at the iconic Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, Tennessee her fourth time playing the venue.

Consider this:

  • Don’t be afraid to take inspiration from other musical artists. You can learn a lot of different techniques from simply watching them.

“These songs are the most honest thing that I have, and they mean so much to me.”

We had to ask MacKenzie about her collab on “last girl” with singer and songwriter Elijah Woods, who we talked to back in November. She said it was awesome to work with a fellow Canadian musician and they got to perform the song together at each of their headlining shows in Toronto.

“You meet really cool people in this industry and I feel like people want to help you out when you open for them, you kind of create a special bond and that is really cool.”

MacKenzie said the songs on her new record are incredibly important to her and revolve around stories and situations she’s experienced, so she hopes fans and listeners can relate and connect to them.
