"The Bold Type" Renewed For 5th & Final Season

Freeform’s “The Bold Type” has just been renewed for its fifth and final season. The cast includes Katie Stevens as Jane Sloan, Aisha Dee as Kat Edison, Meghann Fahy as Sutton Brady, Sam Page as Richard Hunter, and Nikohl Boosheri as Adena El-Amin. The final season is set to premier later this year.

For fans, let’s have a quick review of the all that’s leading up to the finale. And those who haven’t seen the series yet, you can get an idea of what it’s all about! But beware, there may be some spoilers.

This series focuses on a trio of young women (Jane Sloan, Kat Edison, and Sutton Brady) living in New York City, who all work for Scarlet, a women’s magazine. The three best friends began working at the company together as assistants. And the show follows as they navigate their way through their careers and life in the big city. The first season sees Jane work her way into a writer’s position; Sutton develops a complicated relationship with a colleague; and Kat explores her sexuality.

As the show’s seasons go on, Jane continues to evolve as a writer and pursues a relationship by the third season. Kat continues to struggle with her sexual identity. She had began a relationship with Adena, whom she met early in the series as a photographer, and unfortunately it didn’t work out, (YEM held an interview with Nikohl Boosheri about her character’s breakup, link below). However, when Kat decides it is time for a career change, old paths cross leaving her more confused than ever. Sutton, with her relationship now public, reflects on her career and what she wants in the future.

Season four continues working these ladies to their limits, we see a lot of character growth leading into this last season. There are expectations of resolving all conflicts the characters face with their identity, relationships, and careers for this fifth season.
