Degrassi Is Back!!

Have you missed the high school dramas of teenage love and self-discovery like the rest of the 2000’s young adults? Well miss no more! A new Degrassi revival series has been announced by HBO Max as well as all 14-seasons of Degrassi: The Next Generation available for streaming on the platform this spring.

The new teen and family series from WildBrain with showrunners Lara Azzopardi (Backstage, The Bold Type) and Julia Cohen (Riverdale, A Million Little Things) will include 10 hour-long episodes and will launch in 2023.

As fans know, students at Degrassi Community School face many challenges from self-image and sexual identity to social issues like peer pressure, teen pregnancy, and bullying. The new series set in Toronto will dive even deeper into the lives of a group of teenagers and school faculty living in the shadows of events that bind them together and tear them apart. The show will explore the hearts and homes of diverse, complicated characters that are trying to find their new normal and reaching for hope, redemption, and of course, love.

Degrassi is now in its fourth decade. Josh Scherba, President of WildBrain, says it’s one of those “beloved evergreen properties that demands to be refreshed for each new generation.”. He explains that showrunners and Chief Content Officer, Stephanie Betts, envision an evolution for the show that will stay true to the honesty and humanity of the brand. It will also bring exciting new territory, both creatively and dramatically!

It’s. Going. To. Be. Epic.

Amy Friedman, Head of Kids & Family Programming at Warner Bros. says, “WildBrain continues to artfully capture high school life in a compelling format that can be experienced seamlessly on HBO Max.”

 Filming will begin summer 2022!
