Episode 7: A Traveling First for Joshua Satine: Another Simple Favor, Anna Kendrick, Logan Lerman, Broadway’s Leopoldstadt

In episode seven of the Young Entertainment Podcast, Daniella and Mordechai are joined by Joshua Satine, who stars as Miles Smothers in Another Simple Favor, the sequel to the film A Simple Favor, starring Anna Kendrick and Blake Lively. If you’ve ever wanted a podcast to learn from the stars and get the best masterclass tips and tricks for launching your own career, you’ve come to the right place!

Joshua is an up and coming star, having already worked with some of the best in the business. He first played Miles in A Simple Favor from 2018. He has since starred alongside Logan Lerman in the hit Prime Video show Hunters and made cameos in Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and Chicago Med. Before going back to film Another Simple Favor, Joshua made his Broadway debut in the Tony award winning film Leopoldstadt

“Miles comes really naturally to me. It feels like a character I can fully embody.”

The twisted duo of Emily and Stephanie are back in Another Simple Favor, as the two reunite in Capri, Italy, for Emily’s extravagant wedding to a rich Italian businessman. Both Anna Kendrick and Blake Lively reprise their lead roles, as Henry Golding also returns as Sean Townsend and Michele Morrone and Allison Janney join the cast. Joshua’s character Miles is Stephanie’s son.

Because there was a seven year time jump between both films, Joshua said he had to learn how to play Miles as a teenager instead of as a kid, but was able to use his own experiences as inspiration.

“It was just awesome seeing everyone again and seeing what people had done in between.”

Joshua said his original audition for A Simple Favor took place in person and he bonded instantly with director Paul Feig over their love of music and The Beatles. When he first learned he booked the role as Miles, Joshua, who was six at the time, celebrated by watching the School of Rock TV series. Is there anything better?!

“In person, you are meeting people and making connections.”

In between the two films, Joshua made his Broadway debut where he did eight shows every week, playing young Jacob in the powerful play Leopoldstadt. While it was a big commitment, Joshua said he loved every second and getting to play his character a little differently every night.

“The entire play [Leopoldstadt] is definitely from the heart.”

While on set of Another Simple Favor, which was filmed in Italy, Joshua said the cast and crew got to explore all around the country. It was obvious how much fun Joshua had on set, especially learning from Anna Kendrick, who he said has the most fun on set. Joshua also became very close with Henry Golding, even having an impromptu dace party together one day!

“[Anna Kendrick] has a lot of fun on set, you can really tell that she loves it.”

Joshua shared so many inspirational messages for aspiring young actors, and his joy and love for the craft shined. We also learned his favorite snack at Krafty was the best Italian sandwiches ever and he would love to one day work with Steven Spielberg!

Consider this:

  • A great and unique way to memorize lines is to turn your lines into a song, especially great if you are passionate about music. Turn the lines into a tune and you can hum it in your head before going onto set.
  • When playing a character similar in age, take your own experiences and highlights to fill in the blanks of your character’s development. Take a memory you experienced and ask, ‘how would my character have acted in this same situation?’ This can help you to become more connected with your role.
