The Thundermans are back! The super family returned in the new spinoff series, The Thundermans: Undercover, 12 years after we were first introduced to them. The series is available to stream on Amazon Prime. We chatted with Jack Griffo and Kira Kosarin, who reprised their roles of Max and Phoebe, to learn more about coming back to these characters, their favorite superpowers, and more!
The spinoff sequel follows Phoebe, Max, and Chloe who are sent undercover to handle a new threat in the seaside town of Secret Shores. While on this mission, they aim to develop Chloe’s superhero abilities. In addition to Kira and Jack, Maya Le Clark reprises her role as Chloe and Chris Tallman and Rosa Blasi return as Hank and Barb Thunderman. The series also comes after the success of the live-action movie, The Thundermans Return.
Following their original runs on The Thundermans, Jack and Kira have continued to shine. Kira followed her music dreams and released her debut album Off Brand in 2019, and she later signed to Republic Records. She also appeared as Nadia in the Hulu horror series Light as a Feather.
Jack has starred in a number of films and shows, including playing Dylan in the Netflix original series Alexa & Katie, and as Sean Davis in the action film The 2nd alongside Ryan Phillippe. He has also had guest starring roles in Knight Squad and SEAL Team. He also posts music covers on his YouTube channel (@LittlejGriffo).
In addition to playing Phoebe, Kira served as an executive producer on the series, and she said it was so interesting to look at the storylines from both a producer and actor angle. Kira made decisions and saw stunts from a producer point of view that helped her coach some of the other actors as well. Kira even got to direct an episode, showcasing her talent on all fronts!
Kira: “As an executive producer, I can be in the meetings really early on where we’re designing the sets because I’m thinking about what it’s going to feel like being an actor in the set.”
We asked both Jack and Kira if they ever get jealous of other character’s superpowers and Kira said she loves watching other character’s arcs. Phoebe tries to be good but is often misguided as Max sets the sibling duo on the right path. Jack joked that he is envious of Chloe’s teleportation powers and is still hoping Max will inherit super strength one day.
Kira: “I do get jealous of other character’s arcs sometimes.”
Both Kira and Jack have been working together since 2013, with almost 130 total Thunderman episodes under their belts, and both have learned a lot from each other. Kira remarked that they are both so used to each other as actors that they understand each other’s quirks and line deliveries.
Jack: “[Kira and I] feed off of each other’s energy but we also do things very differently.”
Jack said while some of their acting techniques are different, their work ethic and passion for their craft is so similar.
Jack: “Max and Jack blended together.”
If you loved The Thundermans, this new series brings back a lot of those lovable characters and nostalgic elements and both Jack and Kira said they would use the word “family” to describe the show.

Consider this:
- If you’re an actor on set, try and ask a lot of questions of producers or the director. If you ever have an interest in one day going into that field, it is a great first step in observing how they work and how they look at sets differently.
