Hailey Sole has been working in television since 2006 in shows like “Ghost Whisperer” and “Criminal Minds.” Now at just thirteen-years-old she’s starring in the reboot of a cult classic. She plays Amy, a member of the next generation of campers, in the Netflix original series “Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp”  YE got the chance to talk with her about the project which debuts this Friday, July 31st on Netflix. Although, Hailey makes sure to say that it’s not appropriate for all audiences.

“Parents should make sure to watch it and see what their kids should and shouldn’t see,” the actress makes clear. She even goes on to say it’s probably best for people a little older than she is.

She’s definitely not your average thirteen year old and it’s clear from the moment she starts talking, she’s poised far beyond her years. When we get on the line, she immediately apologizes for her raspy voice. She just got back from cheer camp. It was four days of early mornings and late nights and she loved every second of it. When she’s not acting she loves to see her friends.

“I always make time for my friends and I love being able to spend time with them. On the weekends I usually got the mall or go shopping with them. A lot of my life outside of acting involves spending time with my friends.”

She describes her experience making the series as just that, time with friends. She is one of five younger actors and actresses playing the next generation of campers. She got to really bond with her fellow teens while watching the comedy greats. On whether she was ever intimidated by names like Amy Pohler, Bradley Cooper, Molly Shannon or Paul Rudd, “I was more excited than intimidated because I just couldn’t wait to be able to learn from them and experience working on such a fun show with them. They’d always be cracking jokes and making the set a great place to be.”

It’s not hard to imagine the set as one of the funnest around. According to Hailey, “the fun never stopped. There was some sort of funny thing in every scene.” It was a nice change for the actress who has done more drama than comedy up until this point.

So what’s up next for Hailey? She’s concentrating on her school work and watching her favorite shows like Pretty Little Liars, Young and Hungry, and Gossip Girl. She’s happy that Netflix makes her favorite shows so accessible and totally gets the binge watching phenomenon.

In the future she hopes to work with Angelina Jolie and Jennifer Lawrence. “Angelina Jolie seems really down to earth and nice. She just seems really sweet and I’d love to be able to work with her. She can completely change who she is in every project and become a different being and that’s really cool. And Jennifer Lawrence is so great. She’s so funny and she’s herself. She’s a really great role model.”

It’s clear Hailey feels lucky to be able to work with so many great role models and it’s affected her and her priorities already. In fact, she’s become one.

“My main advice to young fans is to just be yourself and support your friends and make sure you drive them to make good decisions. And make sure you set yourself up with good friends who drive you to make good decisions as well.”

Thanks for the great advice Hailey! We can’t wait to see what she does next. Be sure to check in with your parents on if “Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp” is appropriate for you and follow Hailey on Instagram @hailey_sole and Twitter @realhaileysole.
