The CW has finally announced its three leading ladies for the upcoming live action reboot of The Powerpuff Girls. And we could not be more excited! Chloe Bennet has been cast as Blossom, Yana Perrault as Buttercup. And Dove Cameron has been cast as Bubbles!
Dove is best known for her roles on Disney’s Liv and Maddie, as well as Descendants. Chloe can be seen on Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, and Nashville. Yana has been seen in the Broadway musical Jagged Little Pill.
This live action reboot will be based off of the animated series that followed the power trio of superheroes. The reboot will be written by Diablo Cody and Heather Regnier as well as directed by Maggie Kiley. In the upcoming version of The Powerpuff Girls we see the girls as twenty-something year olds who are now dealing with their emotions after having lost their childhood to fighting crime.
Bubbles is now more focused on recapturing her fame than saving the world. But she still sparkles in the same way as we remember her. Blossom will always be remembered as spunky and the Little-Miss-Perfect child. She holds several degrees. Now we’ll see Blossom as more anxious and reclusive than before due to repressed trauma she has from her superhero days. We come to find Buttercup living an anonymous lifestyle. She has been working on shedding her identity as a Powerpuff girl. We may know Buttercup as rebellious and tough, but we may just come to find her to be more sensitive then we remember.
The news of these ladies portraying these iconic characters is amazing, and making us even that much more excited for the upcoming reboot. We can not wait to hear more about what is to come for the live action Powerpuff Girls!
