Zeroes, by Scott Westerfeld, Margo Lanagan, Deborah Biancotti
The first book in a planned series from the author of the Uglies series, Zeroes follows the lives of a new generation of super heroes. Except Ethan and his friends have never felt quite like heroes at all, more like a bunch of zeroes. Each with their own unique ability that makes navigating the modern world at times easier and other times dangerous, the Zeroes’ abilities come with their own personal costs and consequences. In the first installment, the Zeroes led by Nate (Glorious Leader) attempt to get Ethan, aka smooth talking Scam, out of a huge mess involving the cops, sketchy criminals, and a bank robbery gone wrong. Catch all the action as Flicker, Crash, Anonymous, Mob, Scam, and Nate hone their powers to be more than just a bunch of Zeroes.

Faking It

After last week’s episode “Saturday Fight Live” brought a lot of drama and a lot of shakeups to the show’s core relationships, we can’t wait to see what’s happening at Hester High in the wake of what happened during the gang’s trip to LA to see Shane’s BF Duke make his MMA fighting debut. Drama, meaning that Karma felt insecure about Seetah and Liam’s relationship so she tapped out, as it were, and it turns out she had good reason, because the episode ended with Seetah planting one on Liam. Oh, and Amy and Lauren find out way too much about their parents’ sex lives for anybody, including viewers, to be comfortable. Tune in Monday on MTV to find out who’s still together and who is just faking it. Check out a tease of this week’s episode where the gang gets thrown into detention together in a very Breakfast Club type set up.
Very in Pieces, by Megan Frazer Blakemore
Very is a young woman pulled in many different directions who is tired of being the only one putting in effort in her relationships, both with her family and with her boyfriend. Her family seem to be content lost in their own dramas and exploits all while Very’s beloved and quirky grandmother fades away. Looking to find the courage to pursue the things she actually wants in a world that seems to not care what she wants, Very asks herself, “If everything else is falling to pieces, then why can’t I?”
The Muppets
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1zZ_fdQ2bkI
The Muppets make their long-awaited return to the small screen with a new show on ABC on Tuesdays this fall. This version of the Muppets is a bit different than any we’ve seen before, however. This show is filmed in a mockumentary format (think The Office and to a lesser extent Modern Family) combined with a behind-the-scenes reality TV show as it follows the goings-on of the writers and crew of Miss Piggy’s late night talk show. Guess who the head producer is on Miss Piggy’s show? Yep, none other than her ex Kermit, which makes for a lot of drama behind the scenes. But we also get a glimpse into the private and romantic lives of other Muppet faves including Fozzy Bear and his relationship with a young lady whose parents are disapproving of their daughter dating a bear. This version is an excellent update to The Muppets universe for the modern era!!!
