i'll-give-you-the-sun-coverSYNOPSIS:

Jude and her twin brother, Noah, are incredibly close. At thirteen, isolated Noah draws constantly and is falling in love with the charismatic boy next door, while daredevil Jude cliff-dives and wears red-red lipstick and does the talking for both of them. But three years later, Jude and Noah are barely speaking. Something has happened to wreck the twins in different and dramatic ways…until Jude meets a cocky, broken, beautiful boy, as well as someone else—an even more unpredictable new force in her life. The early years are Noah’s story to tell. The later years are Jude’s. What the twins don’t realize is that they each have only half the story, and if they could just find their way back to one another, they’d have a chance to remake their world.

WHY SHOULD YOU CHECK IT OUT?

There are always two sides to every story, and here we will be getting both.  Perhaps especially unique is that not only are the two narrators friends and siblings, but they are in fact twins. The promised artistic bent of the narrative, a focus on romance, and LGBT themes makes this one a no-brainer. Early reviews are so favorable that Warner Bros. already acquired the movie rights, attaching Denise Di Novi (“Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants”, “Crazy Stupid Love”) and Alison Greenspan.

The cover is simple, bright, and colorful with the title boldly and starkly centered.  The streaks of color are likely meant to be sun rays, but the pointed and then rounded ends leave room for rain or teardrop interpretation.  The overall design is similar to the author’s first novel, which will make them a smart-looking pair on any bookshelf.

Author Jandy Nelson lives in San Fransisco.  She received a BA from Cornell, an MFA from Brown in poetry, and another MFA from Vermont College in writing for children and young adults. A literary agent for many years, she is also a published poet.  You may have read some of her other young adult work, in particular THE SKY IS EVERYWHERE.  Find Jandy online at www.JandyNelson.com!

EARLY REVIEWS SAY…

The novel is structurally brilliant, moving back and forth across timelines to reveal each teen’s respective exhilaration and anguish but holding the ultimate revelations back until just the right time.  (Kirkus Reviews)

Readers are meant to feel big things, and they will—Nelson’s novel brims with emotion (grief, longing, and love in particular) as Noah, Jude, and the broken individuals in their lives find ways to heal. (Publishers Weekly)
