The highly anticipated new book-to-screen romance show is finally here! Every Year After, based on the hit Carley Fortune book Every Summer After, is available to stream now on Amazon Prime Video. Ahead of the series release, we chatted with actors Joseph Chiu, Aurora Perrineau, Michael Bradway, and Abigail Cowen, to learn all about the yearning first-love drama series.
The show follows Persephone ‘Percy’ Fraser, played by Sadie Soverall, and Sam Florek’s (Matt Cornett) relationship spanning over a decade. When Percy returns to Canada’s Barry Bay after a secret caused her to cut all ties with the town, she is faced with her first love, Sam, and his older brother, Charlie. Michael plays Charlie, Abigail plays Delilah, Percy’s friend from the city, Joseph plays Sam’s best friend Jordie, and Aurora plays Chantal, Percy’s best friend.
Aurora: “When we were shooting, the scripts were changing quite a bit.”
While season 1 of the show follows Sam and Percy’s love story, some of the other characters find themselves in complicated relationships and unexpected love triangles. Aurora revealed the script was constantly changing so most of the cast didn’t realize the love triangles were coming, but all agreed seeing their characters in a different light than what they originally auditioned for was fun to see.
Joseph: “It was a cool surprise to see Jordie be in a love triangle.”
While the show hasn’t been renewed for a season 2 yet, the cast said they are excited to see what could come from their characters. Michael especially said he is excited to see Charlie’s relationship with Sam mended, and he praised both Matt and Sadie for creating such a solid foundation for the show.
Michael: “Charlie’s evolution will come with the mending of his relationship with his brother.”
There’s so much to explore in the show, and Abigail said season 1 will definitely leave the audience wanting more. The cast reveals whether they see Sam and Percy as an endgame and also have fun with some ship names. Are you Team Pam or Team Sercy?
Abigail: “There’s a lot of twists and turns with Percy and Sam as it has been since they were young, so I’m excited to see where it goes.”
