Eve Ridley Facetimes us to talk working with Milly Alcock and Jason Momoa in Supergirl

The highly anticipated second film in the DC Universe, Supergirl, is almost here, set to release in theaters on June 26th. We chatted with rising star Eve Ridley, who plays Ruthye to learn more about the audition process, what it was like getting into Ruthye’s shoes, and what it was like working with a star-studded cast.

Supergirl follows Kara Zor-El, also known as Supergirl, who celebrates her birthday by traveling across the galaxy with her dog Krypto. Along the way, she meets the young Ruthye and encounters a tragedy that leads her on a journey of vengeance and justice. House of the Dragon star Milly Alcock plays Kara and the film also stars Jason Momoa, David Corenswet, Matthias Schoenaerts, David Krumholtz, and more.

Supergirl is Eve’s feature film debut and she said the audition process was a whirlwind, and she was honored and excited when she booked Ruthye, stepping into such an iconic universe in DC Comics.

“I came out of the audition and it was fun and I remember being happy with how it went.”

Eve did a lot of training to prepare for Ruthye including two months of stunt training which included high-intensity martial arts and boxing. Talk about commitment to the craft!

“The stunt team was so amazing. I’d do the training 100 times again.”

She worked with acting stars including Milly and Jason, and joked that the biggest thing she learned from Milly was to get proper sleep while filming, because the days on set are long and tiring. Eve still keeps in touch often with Milly, proving that the cast relationships remain strong even after filming.

“Everyday on set, Milly mentored me and I learned so much from her.”

She also said watching Jason act on set was such a joy, and it was cool to see how much freedom everyone was given in their acting. She revealed a lot of improvised scenes even made the cut!

Eve’s character Ruthye had many emotional scenes, and so it was important for Eve to learn how to prioritize her emotions. She revealed she had a bracelet making business on set where she would make the cast and crew bead bracelets during downtime.

“I really had to step into Ruthie’s shoes and get in her mindset.”

While being a part of such a legendary franchise, Eve hopes people feel inspired by Ruthye. While we don’t get to see much of her backstory, she is a strong-willed character, and for nostalgic DC fans, Eve said she drew a lot upon the Supergirl comics to help build the character.

“I hope there’s more stories to explore with Ruthie.”
