ABOUT THE ALBUM: Drake’s follow up to Take Care has a lot to live up to since that album was massively successful and legitimized him as an artist. That’s likely why Nothing Was The Same has been shrouded under a lot of secrecy. We know a few things so far, though. Drake has said that the album is heavily influenced by his recent move from Canada to Los Angeles. “There’s just so much going on for me in the U.S. that I recently made the move to L.A… It’s a new atmosphere, getting to know new people. It’s going to be a very interesting album.” The album is also sure to be heavily influenced by Marvin Gaye’s 1978 album Here, My Dear as Drake has been recording the album in the R&B legend’s studio. Curtis Mayfield and Whitney Houston are both sampled on the album. Jay-Z is rumored to be featured but that is unconfirmed at this moment. Other potential guests include Future, Rick Ross, Anthony Hamilton, Justin Timberlake, Sade, James Fauntleroy, 2 Chainz, Jhene Aiko, Saukrates, and Miguel. Regardless, this is sure to be one of the top albums of the year and it’s an exciting moment in Drake’s career. Look out for it 9/17/13.
SINGLE SPOTLIGHT: “Started from the Bottom” has been acclaimed since the moment it dropped. The refrain is insanely catchy and Drake is always at his best when he’s dropping honest knowledge, as he does on this track.
