The Vineyard Recap

The Vineyard promo imageEpisode 1×6 of The Vineyard is called “Cat Fight”. It’s a pretty terrifying, if apt title. Let’s see how the ball of yarn unravels, shall we?

Appropriately, we start with everyone waking up in the morning. Some make breakfast, others jog on the beach. Ah, life on the Vineyard. Luis knocks on Katie’s door and old feelings quickly resurge. Emil and Luis lay their feelings out since he is back and everyone needs to figure out their feelings because, WHOA FEELINGS. Sophie and Daniel are packing and bickering.

Daniel is talking about throwing a huge Martha’s Vineyard party so Sophie can sing at it. John walks in and borrows Daniel to talk. Jon takes him fishing and apologizes. Daniel forgives him because, hey, they’re fishing on the vineyard. Luis calls Cat and surprises her by actually being behind her when he calls. She’s VERY SURPRISED. He tells her about the note that Katie wrote him. She is very skeptical of his decision to return, with good reason.

We then cut to Katie and Cat and here’s where things get interesting. They talk about what happened at the wedding and that she knew that she had feelings for Luis and that that was why she wrote the note to him. She felt like she had made a big mistake when he actually showed up. Honey, you can’t put the smoke back in the cigarette. She’s tried to reach Matt to talk about what is going on with her but she can’t get ahold of him while he is out of the country.

Jackie and Daniel talk with Jon about what happened with Emily. Daniel tells her that he can’t get in the middle of it. Classic avoidance. He asks Jackie to help him pan the party for Sophie to sing (singing Sophie party!). It’s going to be big. The theme to the party is a “White Party.” That feels a little played out but it’s the Vineyard so they get a pass. He admits that he has a little bit of a crush on Sophie to no one’s surprise. Katie goes to Jackie’s mom’s house to talk to her about Luis and what she should do about Matt. Jackie’s mom gives mixed advice in that she tells Emily she shouldn’t feel bad about it (questionable) but that that’s not the kind of talk that should happen over the phone (so true). Katie stops on her bike to call Matt.

She leaves a voicemail saying that she wants to talk to him. She may pull a Jersey Shore and go home for a few days to do so, who knows? Luis joins the party. He’s talking to Cat about getting his job back but she has already filled the position. Jon and Jackie are talking about what happened with Emily and that she doesn’t want all the drama. He rejects her. We see Luis kiss Katie which pretty much rocks Jackie’s world.

Ben and Cat continue to DTR. Finally, they make it official. Jon meets Emily on the beach again. He picks her up and after a grand romantic gesture involving a captain’s hat and some seashells, asks for a second chance. She says yes and they kiss. Ben, Cat and Luis are shopping for party clothes when Katie shows up. DRAMA or…CATFIGHT. Ben diffuses the Cat/Katie situation right before she gets to her and they go back to shopping.

Now, for the “White Party” Daniel is playing a great host. Jon and Daniel talk about Sophie and how good she looks. Daniel gives a speech welcoming everyone to the party and introduces Sophie to sing. Applause Applause. Jackie decides to confront Katie about Luis. Right at the last second, Jackie chickens out and tells her that they look so good together. Ben sees Cat staring at Katie and tells her to stay out of it because it’s not her business. stage. Cat goes over to talk to Luis. She says she can’t sit back and watch this happen. She says Katie’s going to hurt him and brings up Matt again. Luis tries to avoid the conversation.

Sophie hugs and thanks Daniel for the party and how excited she was about being on stage. She says that she met someone and gave them her number as she hugs Daniel and says goodbye. Ouch, friendzone. Katie and Luis are going to meet in the park. Cat follows Katie. She asks what is up with her and Luis and why she still has a boyfriend while hanging out with him. Luis walks straight into the Catfight and ends his relationship with Cat. Katie calls Matt as we fade to black. There’s too much drama to unpack here, thankfully we have several more eps in which to do so. Stay tuned for more Vineyard drama.
