Lies My Girlfriend Told Me

Original author: Julie Anne Peters
Lies my Girlfriend Told Me

SYNOPSIS:
When Alix’s charismatic girlfriend, Swanee, dies from sudden cardiac arrest, Alix is overcome with despair. As she searches Swanee’s room for mementos of their relationship, she finds Swanee’s cell phone, pinging with dozens of texts sent from a mysterious contact, L.T. The most recent text reads: “Please tell me what I did. Please, Swan. Te amo. I love you.”

Shocked and betrayed, Alix learns that Swanee has been leading a double life–secretly dating a girl named Liana the entire time she’s been with Alix. Alix texts Liana from Swanee’s phone, pretending to be Swanee in order to gather information before finally meeting face-to-face to break the news.

Brought together by Swanee’s lies, Alix and Liana become closer than they’d thought possible. But Alix is still hiding the truth from Liana. Alix knows what it feels like to be lied to–but will coming clean to Liana mean losing her, too?

WHY SHOULD YOU CHECK IT OUT?
Alix’s girlfriend has been cheating on her. But there is probably no worse way to ever find out about something than because that person is dead and you have their phone! Ugh! But it sounds like Alix and Liana might have a happy end coming out of the tragedy and lies, so this one is top of our list.

It’s unclear if the character on the cover is Alix or the enigmatic Swanee. Our guess is the later, since there is a distinct intensity to the blonde’s gaze, setting the mood instantly, and to throw out the question if she is a sociopath or just someone who needed to learn better communication skills.

Author Julie Anne Peters is well known for her YA novels including heavy doses of LGBT reality. She deals with trans issues in “Luna”, same-sex divorce in “Between Mom and Jo”, and abuse in a same-sex relationship in “Rage: A Love Story”. She recently celebrated 38 years with her partner, Sherri!

EARLY REVIEWS SAY…
questions of love and honesty abound. … [I]t’s a pleasure to read a typical teen romance that just happens to be between two girls. Romance fans of any persuasion will be swept up in this slow-paced but ultimately sweet story. (School Library Journal)

Enjoyable as a romance. (Kirkus Reviews)
