Get ready To All the Boys fans… Netflix just announced the release of a TATB spin-off show!
The third, and what we thought was the last TATB movie, Always and Forever, premiered on Netflix on February 12, 2021. This movie was such a sweet and dare I say, perfect? end to the movie trilogy that first captured our hearts since 2018. The TATB films became very loved not only for its cast and dreamy storyline, but for its depiction of Asian representation on the big screen.
To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before follows the story of hopeless romantic Lara Jean Song Covey (Lana Condor), a Korean-American teenager, who tries to navigate her junior year (and life) when her older sister and closest confidant Margot (Janel Parrish) goes to college in another country. Lara Jean would rather stay home, bake and read on the weekends, but now she has to step up at home and take care of her younger sister Kitty (Anna Cathcart) and dad (John Corbett). Just when things couldn’t be more different with the absence of Margot, Lara Jean’s private love letters get released to the boys that they’re addressed to. Her life goes from simple to complicated very, very quickly.
With the release of the final movie earlier this year, fans said a bittersweet goodbye to Lara Jean and heartthrob Peter Kavinsky (Noah Centineo). (For superfans, it should be known that we still get our Covinsky content by rewatching the films on Netflix and rereading the books though.)
The TATB spin-off show was announced on the toalltheboysnetflix Instagram page. This couldn’t be more exciting news for TATB fans.
“I bet you thought the story was over… That there wouldn’t be any more letters,” Anna Cathcart said in the voiceover video posted by the TATB Netflix Instagram page, “but there’s one Covey sister – some might call her the favorite – whose love story is just beginning. Stay tuned! XO, Kitty.”
Anna Cathcart will reprise her role as Kitty Covey for the show XO, Kitty. Jenny Han, author of the To All the Boys series that inspired the movies, will serve as co-showrunner alongside Sacha Rothchild, known for shows such as The Bold Type, The Carrie Diaries, as well as Netflix’s GLOW and The Babysitter’s Club.
“To my dearest @annacathcart – I’m so excited to go on this journey together. XO, Jenny,” Jenny Han wrote on an Instagram post.
Let’s face it TATB book and movie lovers: it doesn’t get better than this.
