An upside Star Wars world is here, bringing new twists to your favorite characters and the beloved franchise. Lego Star Wars: Rebuild The Galaxy is a four-part miniseries on Disney+ out now! We got to chat with Gaten Matarazzo, who plays Sig Greebling, Tony Revolori as Dev Greebling, and Marsai Martin who plays Yesi Scala. We learned more about Tony and Marsai working to create chemistry through an animated series, and Gaten’s experience playing Toby in Broadway’s Sweeney Todd and if there was any overlap with Joe Locke (who is about to be in Disney+ Agatha All Along).

Lego Star Wars: Rebuild The Galaxy follows Sig and his brother Dev, who discover a lost Jedi Temple with an ancient relic. They accidentally set off a chain of events that completely rewrites the galaxy, as heroes become villains, villains become heroes and the brothers turn against each other. Sig, along with Jedi Bob, have to work together to retrieve the relic as Sig hopes to set things right and bring his brother back to him.  

Gaten first broke into the TV and film world with his star role as Dustin Henderson in Netflix’s science-fiction drama Stranger Things. He is also a star on the Broadway stage, most recently starring as Toby in Thomas Kail’s revival of Sweeney Todd. 

Gaten: “I learned a lot more about my own voice and how to take care of it.”

Gaten called playing Toby a dream role, and said he learned how physically exhausting the role was, but he learned more about his own voice and how to listen to others. While Gaten did not overlap with Heartstopper star Joe Locke, who took over the role of Toby a few months later, he said he would love to collaborate on stage one day. We can’t wait to see this happen!

Gaten: “Joe {Locke] is the best, he is so talented.”

You may also recognize Tony from portraying Flash Thompson in the Spider-Man Marvel Cinematic Universe films and Marsai from her role as Diane Johnson in the hit ABC series Black-ish. 

And while creating an animated series in Lego Star Wars: Rebuild The Galaxy, we asked Tony and Marsai how to create on-screen chemistry even when they are voicing their characters in sound booths. Tony gave a lot of credit to the show’s creators, including showrunners Dan Hernandez and Benji Samit, and Chris Buckley the director, for putting the best voice takes together. Marsai said having castmates like Tony and Gaten made it comfortable in matching their energy and great vibes.

Marsai: “In the early stages, I was familiar with Gaten and Tony, and I can match Gaten and hear what he is going to say.”

Tony: “Dan (Hernandez), Benji (Samit) and Chris (Buckley), our director, really kind of found that chemistry within the lines and takes.”
