In episode 17 of The Young Entertainment Podcast, Daniella and Mordechai are joined by the incredibly talented MK, an actor, singer, dancer, and model. MK stars as Vargas in the Disney film Zombies 4: Dawn of the Vampires, out now on Disney+.
We chatted all about the film, MK’s favorite moments on set, and what it was like to play a vampire. If you’ve ever wanted a podcast to learn from the stars and get BTS moments from your favorite shows and movies, you’ve come to the right place!
MK is a jack of all trades, landing his first professional role at just 12 years old, playing the role of ‘Wolfie’ at Dracula’s Cabaret. He has since hosted for Network 10, performed in “The Nutcracker” with the QLD Ballet and appeared in Peacock’s Joe vs. Carole alongside Kate McKinnon. MK is also very passionate about advocating for mental health and using his platform to inspire change. He told us he loves to be versatile as a performer, and loves to go for roles where he can act, sing and dance.
Zombies 4: Dawn of the Vampires is the fourth installment in the hit Disney Zombies series. Zed and Addison will discover the warring worlds of Sunnyside and Shadyside on a summer road trip after their first year of college, encountering two new groups of monsters, the Daywalkers and Vampires. Milo Manheim and Meg Donnelly reprise their roles as Zed and Addison. MK’s character Vargas is a Nightwalker Vampire with a variety of powers.
It was obvious how much fun MK had on set, and he walked us through the first day where he couldn’t take the smile off his face. While he’s not a morning person, he joked he had never been so happy to be up at 5am to start filming.
MK: “It was a lot of feelings of excitement, high energy and electricity.”
The cast, both those returning and those new to the franchise, became so close on set, and MK said they always hung out in their down time, doing escape rooms and going go karting.
MK had nothing but great things to say about everyone, saying Malachai Barton, who plays Victor, had the best energy. Milo was the big brother of the cast, Meg was one of the most funny people, and Chandler Kinney, who plays Willa, was the hardest working person. MK also worked with Kylie Cantrall for the “Descendants/Zombies: Worlds Collide Tour”, set to kick off this summer, and said she is one of the most captivating dancers ever!
MK: “Milo is like the big brother of the cast. He is so welcoming and so approachable.”
MK: “Kylie is such a great performer and is an incredible artist.”
While playing a vampire for the first time, there’s a lot that went into his look and MK said he would have to get his red hair ‘re-waxed’ everyday. The vampires in this film are unlike any vampires you’ve ever seen before, as they can control wind and it was MK’s first time ever getting to work with special effects!
MK: “I am excited for fans to see how beautiful the scenery is in this movie.”
MK undoubtedly has a bright future ahead, and he is going into the rest of his career with the mindset of treating everyone around him on set with respect. He hopes to one day win an Oscar and we are manifesting this for him!
MK: “I would love to do a [Zombies 5], it was a great experience.”
