Riverdale star Madelaine Petsch and the cast of Maintenance Required share favorite on-set skills

While rom-coms are timeless, the new movie Maintenance Required brings a new modern twist to online romance, now available to stream on Prime Video! We chatted with stars Madelaine Petsch, Jacob Scipio and Matteo Lane to learn more about how they get into character and their favorite BTS moments, while Madelaine shared the unusual skills she’s picked up in roles and her growth as an actress from Riverdale.

Maintenance Required follows Charlie, played by Madelaine, as she is forced to reevaluate her all-female mechanic shop, and confides in her online confidant Beau, played by Jacob, who turns out to be her real-life business rival. Even amid their professional rivalry, their connection blossoms. The film also stars Madison Bailey, Katy O’Brian, Jim Gaffigan, and more!

Madelaine has risen to stardom, starring as Cheryl Blossom for seven seasons on Riverdale. She has also starred in films like Polaroid and The Strangers. Jacob has starred in multiple projects, including the film Bad Boys for Life and Bad Boys: Ride or Die. You may also recognize comedian Matteo Lane from appearances on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert and Late Night with Seth Meyers.

Jacob and Matteo worked closely together, and they both gushed over working with each other. Jacob said Matteo took advice so well and always brought the energy and humor to set everyday.

Jacob: “Matteo came in everyday with such a fantastic mentality.”

Matteo revealed this film was his first major acting role and Jacob was his bootcamp in acting, teaching him how to look into a camera and navigate a film set!

Matteo: “Jacob was just the right person to do a movie with for the first time.”

It was obvious from our interviews how much fun the cast had on set, and Jacob and Matteo revealed the funniest scene to film was the pool scene, as they had to play a game of pool and pretend they were top players but in reality, they couldn’t sink any shots!

While playing love interests, Jacob and Madelaine spent a lot of time together on set and really enjoyed working with each other.

Jacob: “[Madelaine and I] spent so much time together on set.”

Madelaine also spent a lot of time with Madison Bailey, and said they did many escape rooms together. We would love to see a Riverdale x Outer Banks crossover, and Madelaine told us her dream crossover episode is where Kiara and the Pogues steal treasure from Cheryl, who then goes on an adventure with Toni to get it back. We need this!

Madelaine: “A Riverdale/Outerbanks crossover wouldn’t be that outlandish.”

Madelaine learned a lot from her seven seasons on Riverdale, as she got to have a lot of control over her character. She was able to ask a lot of questions on set and this set her up for future success in that she looks at many roles through a ‘producer’ sense.

Madelaine also revealed that she does her own stunts, and has learned unique skills for every project she’s been in. For Riverdale, Madelaine learned archery; for The Strangers, she learned piano; and for Maintenance Required, she took mechanic training, learning how to change a tire, do an oil change and so much more. Talk about dedication!

Madelaine: “I’ve been lucky enough to do roles where there is always some sort of skill I have to acquire.”

Madelaine, Jacob and Matteo also shared some hilarious BTS moments on set that you’ll want to hear about. Thank you to them for chatting with Young Entertainment!
