In episode 32 of the Young Entertainment Podcast, Mordechai and Daniella share two exclusive, never before seen interviews with the stars of the new film Regretting You, out now in theaters. And because it is a book-to-movie adaptation, we talk all things BookTok and our favorite adaptations of all time!
If you’ve ever wanted a podcast to learn from the stars and get the best masterclass tips and tricks for launching your own career, you’ve come to the right place!
Regretting You is based on the 2019 book of the same name by Colleen Hoover and stars Allison Williams as Morgan Grant, a young mother who puts her ambitions on hold to raise her teenage daughter Clara. But when a family tragedy puts a strain on their relationship, they need to figure out how to navigate life together. Mckenna Grace stars as Clara, and the film also stars Mason Thames, Dave Franco, and Scott Eastwood.
Mordechai: “Mckenna Grace is getting her flowers which I’m so happy about. This is her movie.”
Young Entertainment’s own reporter, Lauren Smolka, had the chance to interview both Mckenna Grace and Sam Morelos, who plays Lexie. We learned all about Mckenna’s chemistry with Mason, and her favorite song to listen to get into Clara’s headspace. Mckenna also shared some BTS details she has never said in any other interview!
Daniella: “It is so popular among the actors that we interview that they utilize songs and music to help them get into the headspace of their character.”
In our chat with Sam, we got more insight into the cast’s adventures off set to get that chemistry you see on screen, including a trip to the World of Coca-Cola. Sam also gave us insight into what she learned from working with Mason Thames and even a comedy tip from Saturday Night Live cast member Chloe Fineman!
Book-to-movie adaptations have become so incredibly popular in the last few years, in part due to the rise of BookTok, which has bridged the gaps between all types of entertainment. From A Walk to Remember, Pretty Little Liars and more recently, The Summer I Turned Pretty, so many books have inspired book people to turn to movies and TV and vice versa.
Daniella: “If a book is going viral and getting a lot of traction on social media, the producers out there are going to want to create a screenplay around it.”
At Young Entertainment, we’ve covered so many incredible authors and books, and there are so many worthy books to be adapted into a show or movie. Mordechai’s recommendations are “Better Than the Movies” by Lynn Painter and “If I See You Again Tomorrow” by Robbie Couch, who we once interviewed!.
Mordechai: “I love watching shows and movies but I also love holding something in my hand to read.”
We are also back with our masterclass moments, of how best to study in preparation of playing a book character to life on screen. It is important to read the content first and do research to understand the character’s desires and intentions to bring those inner monologues to life.

Consider this:
- When adapting a character from a novel, it is important to do research and understand the character’s intentions. Once you’ve internalized who the character is, there is no need to imitate what is on the page. Don’t act out the book, live in it!
