We miss XO, Kitty and all of Kitty’s adventures at KISS, so in anticipation of season 3 of the hit Netflix show, we chatted with Jocelyn Shelfo, who plays Madison. We chatted all about her favorite scenes to film in season 2 and the best things about each of her castmates!
Season 2 picks up almost two years after the dramatic cliffhanger that saw Kitty head back to America for good after being expelled. As she finds her way back to KISS, she discovers her love life was a lot more complicated than she thought.
All your favorite characters including Dae, Yuri, Min Ho, Q, and more return, and they are joined by newcomers including Stella, Praveena and Jin.
In addition to XO, Kitty, Jocelyn has appeared in some of your favorite projects, including as the spunky debutante Marisa in The Summer I Turned Pretty. She also had a supporting role in the feature film May December. Jocelyn revealed the show The Vampire Diaries inspired her to become an actress.
“Being on set, you definitely do pick up [Korean].”
Jocelyn has appeared in not one, but two Jenny Han projects and was encouraged to audition for XO, Kitty from Jenny herself. After getting a callback for the role of Madison, Jocelyn was asked to learn some Korean, and she even taught herself the Korean alphabet!
“When it comes to costar auditions when you don’t have a huge storyline, it invites you into the story in a different way.”
In season 2 especially, the entire cast bonded from filming so many scenes together, especially during their skiing trip in episode 4. Jocelyn shared that while filming in those cabins, it is customary in Korean culture to take off your shoes before stepping inside, and so the entire cast and crew filmed barefoot. Jocelyn said it was really cool to see everyone respect the culture.
“It was so cool to be in such close quarters as the crew [in the cabins].”
Jocelyn’s favorite scenes to film were those cabin scenes, and she revealed she even got to improv some reactions, which she was so proud of being trusted with!
“[The cabin scenes] were fun because I got to do improv and I love improv.”
Jocelyn has worked with so many incredible young actors, and had nothing but great things to say about each of them. She said Lola Tung, who stars as Belly in TSITP, is so humble and Gavin Casalegno, who plays Jeremiah, is very generous.
While working on set of XO, Kitty, Jocelyn said Anna Cathcart who plays Kitty is a great leader in the group and Anthony Keyvan who plays Q taught her how to advocate for herself on set,
“Anna [Cathart] is just a phenomenal person and I can’t even fathom how she balances everything she does with all the grace she has.”
We are still hung up on that season 2 ending, and while Jocelyn also was not the biggest fan of Kitty and Min Ho’s final scenes, she said it was necessary to set up the plot for season 3!

- Research is important in any role you are cast in! Whether you are playing a real person or a fictional character, researching where your character lives, their surroundings, and who they surround themselves with is important in character development.
