YEM Interview: Johari Washington explains what it was like coming into “Secrets of Sulphur Springs” in the second season

Johari Washington is an actor. Johari is in the second season of “Secrets of Sulphur Springs”. “Secrets of Sulphur Springs”  is an American mystery drama television series. It is about A young boy and his family who move to an abandoned hotel in Sulpher Springs, Louisiana where he befriends a curious girl named Harper. Johari portrays the character of Topher. YEM was able to speak with Johari about what to expect from season 2, how similar he is to his character, and inspirations he had for his character.

Young Entertainment Mag: I know you were not a part of Season 1, but was it hard for you to come into an already existing cast for Season 2?

Johari Washington: It wasn’t really that hard because it’s easy for me to make friends, and I love meeting new people.  I was VERY excited, and the process was super fun!

YEM: What can viewers expect to see in Season 2?

Johari: Viewers can expect more mystery AND more spooky moments.  Also, we find out who the real Tremont ghost is.

YEM: What were some story lines you were excited to explore in the new season?

Johari: One of the storylines I was VERY excited to explore was the history of the Tremont Hotel. We got to explore it inside and out more thoroughly, literally and figuratively.  The bunker was so creepy but still really cool.  Another one of my favorite parts was how cool my room is: super scary posters on throwback horror, alien and sci-fi movies, action figures and toys!

YEM: How similar are you to your character?

Johari: As an actor I love to pretend.  Topher pretends he is tough, and in reality he’s afraid of things too. Topher is pretty likeable and people seem to really like me as Johari too.

YEM: Elements of this show deal with time travel. Is there a time you would travel to? Past or present?

Johari: I would like to travel to the future.  I often wonder about my career as an actor in the future, and I also think I could become a chef.  I love cooking, and people seem to like my food.

YEM: How has this project differed from other projects you’ve worked on in the past?

Johari: Before I booked “Secrets of Sulphur Springs,” I mostly acted in plays, commercials and print jobs.  Commercials and print are quick jobs.  “Secrets of Sulphur Springs” is a long but great journey.  I really enjoyed the friends I’ve made and the people involved.

YEM: What are some of your inspirations for your character?

Johari: I wanted to bring “funny” to Topher.  My dad makes me laugh a lot, so I could use him as an example to add some fun to the character.  I also watched the first season of “Secrets of Sulphur Springs,” and I tried to bring Bryant’s energy into it with my own “Johari” spin, of course.  It was fun!

Watch Johari in the second season of “Secrets of Sulphur Springs”!
