“HSMTMTS” Star Kylie Cantrall Just Put Out Her New Song “Elastic” So We FaceTimed Her For All the Deets | Young Entertainment Exclusive

Kylie Cantrall is a creative force that cant be stopped! After playing Dani on season four of High School Musical: The Musical: The Series, she is set to star alongside Rita Ora as Red in Descendants: The Rise of Red, released by Disney+ later this year. And her new song “Elastic” is coming out on February 21. We had a chance to chat with Kylie to learn more about her various singing and acting projects, being welcomed on set, and more.

Kylie started her career on YouTube and has since grown in popularity, with over six million followers on TikTok and over 568k on Instagram. In addition to her other acting roles, Kylie is a Disney veteran, having appeared as Tessa in Bizaardvark, Gabby Duran on Gabby Duran & the Unsittables. Jasmine in Raven’s Home, and more.

While she came onto the set of High School Musical: The Musical: The Series during season four, Kylie said she instantly felt welcomed by the cast and by the show’s creator Tim Federle

“[Tim Federle] really created such a beautiful environment and it feels like a team. It does take a village so it’s cool just having that vibe of we all have each other’s backs and support one another and that’s definitely the culture he created on set.”

During her first day of filming, she got to work with Joshua Bassett and revealed that everyone is just as musical off camera as they are while filming the show. Kylie played Dani, who channeled similar energy to Sharpay Evans

“I used Sharpay as a reference, Regina George a little bit, even like Maddy Perez from Euphoria. Those were the characters I really wanted to emulate Dani after.”

We asked Kylie about working on set of Descendants: The Rise of Red, coming out this year. The film is set to follow Red, the daughter of the Queen of Hearts, and Chloe, daughter of Cinderella, as they team up to save Auradon by traveling back in time to stop an event that would cause grave consequences. Kylie got to work with Rita Ora, who plays the Queen of Hearts, and she said that Rita gave her a lot of life advice, from relationships to friendships.

Kylie told us this is a music year, and to expect a lot of different songs and music videos in the future, including one for the release of “Elastic”.

Consider this:

  • Start a concept book, where you write down lyrics, ideas, and any inspiration that comes to you. This will help you remember when you sit down to work on something.
