The summer of movies keeps getting better as a new thriller, The Devil’s Mouth, hits Prime Video on July 29th! We chatted exclusively with actress Lana Condor, who stars as Max, to learn about her experience working with a star-studded cast, filming an intense thriller, and her best tips for young actors.
In The Devil’s Mouth, a group of college friends’ Thailand adventure turns deadly when they become trapped in a submerged cave with a dangerous predator. As oxygen runs low, past conflicts emerge in their desperate fight for survival. The film also stars Kathryn Newton, Gavin Casalegno, Nico Hiraga, Tommi Rose, and Tayme Thapthimthong.
“All of the actors inspired me every day on this set.”
Lana is a star in her own right, but she revealed she learned a lot herself from this cast. She dubbed Kathryn one of this generation’s scream queens, from her roles in Paranormal Activity 4, Lisa Frankenstein and Abigail, and said she learned a lot from Kathryn on conserving energy during those intense scenes.
“Watching Kathryn do what she is so good at was such a dream.”
She also said Gavin’s character Greg is incredibly likeable in the film, and he is just the same charming and fun guy off set.
“It was really fun to get to see Gavin and his natural charm.”
You may of course remember Lana from To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before and while that is a rom com, Lana said acting in a rom com and thriller aren’t all that different!
In a rom com, those feelings of love and desire are intense, and in a thriller, you really have to lean into those feelings of fear and chaos. So the intensity of both genres is similar, and it takes the same level of preparation to get into those headspaces.
“Even as two different genres, rom coms and thrillers are not as different as we think.”
Lana also shared her best tips for young actors looking to grow their careers. Going to classes consistently is the key, as they help to build your confidence and experience.
“No matter where you are in your career, go to classes because you can learn so much from other people.”
