Olivia Rodrigo and Joshua Bassett release new duet for HSMTMTS!

Olivia Rodrigo and Joshua Bassett have collaborated again for a new duet in the upcoming season of High School Musical: The Musical: The Series! Everyone has been anticipating the new season of HSMTMTS, and even more so now since Olivia released her hit single “Drivers License” earlier this year.

The duet was titled “Even When/The Best Part” and came out on Youtube. It was a duet that featured Joshua playing guitar and Olivia on ukulele in a scene from HSMTMTS as their characters Nini and Ricky.  Both of the characters were singing their individual songs in a room during the video.

The duet is unique as it is a blend of two songs. In HSMTMTS both Nini and Ricky write songs for each other during an episode revolving around Valentines Day, and end up singing them to each other but they were not physically together in the same space as they both end up visiting each other for the holiday. Nini ends up being back in Salt Lake City, Utah, and Ricky ends up being in Denver. This results with the two singing their songs over the phone to each other, beautifully blending the two songs in the episode.  The two songs beautifully fit together, and really shows off how talented both Olivia and Joshua as musicians.

Both Olivia and Josh have performed their own songs on HSMTMTS and will continue to in the upcoming season, but this song was not their own. “Even When/The Best Part” was actually written by Mitch Allan, Chantry Johnson and Michelle Zarlenga.

HSMTMS can not come soon enough, and it will be great to see even more songs from Olivia, Joshua, and the whole cast of the show. We can not wait to hear all of the amazing songs that are to come!

HSMTMTS premieres on Disney+ on May 14th.
