YEM’s 2020 Top 5 List: Top 5 Singles

2020 is finally nearing its end, and we’re all heaving a collective sigh of relief! But just because the year didn’t exactly go to plan doesn’t mean there weren’t a few good things to come out of it. And on the other hand, quarantine definitely made us appreciate the songs, movies, TV shows, and books that saved us from mind-numbing boredom all that much more. Here’s YEM’s 2020 Top 5 List to look back on the best YA content this year had to offer.

Top 5 Songs

1.“No Way” – Lana Condor & Anthony De la Torre

We know Lana Condor as a brilliant actress from her performance in All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, but now she shows off her singing skills with this catchy new song. Be sure to check out the music video she made with her boyfriend Anthony De la Torre for possibly the cutest collaboration of all time!

2. “Wondering” – High School Musical: The Musical: The Series, Julia Lester & Olivia Rodrigo

HSMTMTS promised an experience like the original High School Musical and went above and beyond with this stunning duet. Check out our interview with Julia Lester here!

3.“Clouds” – Clouds, Fin Argus & Sabrina Carpenter

The inspiring song written by Zach Sobiech is brought to life again by Fin Argus and Sabrina Carpenter in the movie Clouds. Once you’ve seen the movie, this song is impossible to listen to with shedding a tear or wearing a smile. Read YEM’s review of the movie here.

4.“Unsaid Emily” – Julie and the Phantoms, Charlie Gillespie

Of all the fantastic songs performed on Julie and the Phantoms, “Unsaid Emily” stood head and shoulders above the rest. We recommend watching the video clip that accompanies the song – as long as you’re armed with plenty of tissues. Read YEM’s breakdown of the emotional scene here.

5.“Somebody to Tell Me” – Love, Victor theme, Tyler Glenn

The Love, Victor Theme song was written specifically with the theme of the show in mind. “Somebody to Tell Me” gives us a glimpse into the struggles Victor faces as he comes to terms with his identity. Check out YEM’s interview with Neon Trees frontman Tyler Glenn who performs the song, here!
